I'm not going crazy with this one. Partner has 3-4 hearts, at least 5+ spades, and could have a few clubs.

we are 25% from making 7d opposite AJ9xx Axx xx xxx
and yet if p has AKJ9x QJTx xx Ax we are only 50%
to make 5d. We have little defense and there is no rational
method of discovering how good p hand is for slam.

IMO our best bet is to make sure the opps cant steal the
hand for anything less than 6c. If we now bid

5d

P will have the option of x 6c (knowing we promised little/no
defense. Anything other than 5d takes a large position that p
will comprehend the length of our diamonds if we repeat them.

Even if we have a spade fit (62) it is unlikely to do all that well
unless we were heading to making dia also.

I like a simple 2D (NF) on these kinds of hands. Preempting does not help that much anymore (opener knows what responder has more or less and who cares what responder knows) so might as well try to find out something/try to buy the contract as low as possible. Maybe I'm biased from the small sample size but this approach has generally worked out for me.

2♦ seems obvious regardless of how forcing it is. They found their fit and are much better defined than us so 5♦ is just giving us a bigger guess than they will have. We can still belong in any of 4 strains and defending the 5th doubled is also possible if they bid again and partner has the remaining clubs.

Yes, I agree with this more than what I wrote. I strongly believe 2D should be nonforcing here but of course I would also bid it if it were forcing by agreement.

Seems kind of unrealistic, but I think I would continue ostensibly underbidding and bid 4♦. Next I will try 4♠ over 4♥ I guess.
