IMPs, favourable, you deal and hold:
KJTX K KXXX AJXX
You open the systemic 1♦ (2+, 10 - 15 points, denies a 5 card major) and the bidding proceeds:
1♦ - (1♥) - 3♦ (1) - (3♥) - ??
1: Preemptive
Will you bid any differently if your 1♦ opening systemically promised 0+ ♦? Assume that pard can bid 3♦s at these colors with a shapely hand and and 6 reasonable diamonds.

To sacrifice or not to sacrifice... And how to involve pard in the decision...

TRUST YOUR PARTNER if P has what they should have for 3d QJxxxx (and out)
then 4h is a virtual guarantee to make. We will be commiting our side to -300
to -500 (rarely -800) in exchange for -620. This makes an immediate bid of
5d
to be the best overall bid since we do not want to have to worry about what to do
over 5h. (personally i would pass 5h). If p is lying about their hand the result will
probably be far from optimal but maybe your p will learn not to give false information
since you are basing your decisions on what they should have for their bid.

I pass. They haven't even bid 4♥ yet and might not. Get back to me after p-4♥-p-p and I'll think it over again.

I read about a similar hand/auction years ago where Ozzie Jacoby passed 3♥ knowing he could make a lot of ♠ but also knowing they could make a LOT of ♥.
With your point count they might just park it in 3♥ if you pass and you can and should dive if they don't.
We might beat 4♥ but 5♦ doubled should be pretty cheap and I have plenty of doubt. Last hand of a tight ko match and I'm in the tank for an hour.

I'll bid 5♦ right now. Partner probably does not have many ♥ for his preempt, so it is very unlikely they stay in 3♥ if we pass, and there is a slight chance they can make 5♥. I don't want to help their decision over 5♦.
Furthermore, by sacrificing now it is very possible they leave it undoubled thinking we bid to make. If we pass then sacrifice later, they will know to choose between X and 5♥.
I think the second question is ambiguous. If I first passed hoping they stay in 3♥, then it is an obvious 5♦ bid.
If I first bid 3♠ for some reason, then I'll be consistent and pass 4♥.

Tired of red/black ♠♥♦♣.
♠♥♦♣ For 4 suits, why not 4 colors ? ♣♦♥♠

LHO's values are well positioned over much of what I got. No guarantee they will bid on, and no guarantee they will make 4. 5♦ could be a phantom.

I have plenty of possible defence here. I think too many people sacrifice here just because of the vul. Why can't partner have a defensive card either?
