Firstly , what do you think of my bidding. I appreciate it was aggressive at these colours but was it too aggressive?
Play went:
♥ 4 2 A 8
♦ 7 A
When I played the Ace partner accused me of being an idiot. I thought it was the correct play at Imps as I couldn't risk losing to the K and then a Diamond ruff.
What say you?
Given that it doesn't look like the field would get to 4S would you risk the the contract at MPs?
As always thanks in advance,
Simon
EDIT: Oops I really am an idiot. I set the hand diagrams up after the first 2 tricks had been played. Serves me right for trying to post and watch the England V Italy game at the same time.

I never get offensive I prefer to leave or report if really offensive. In this case I just pointed out it was IMPs and I wanted to guarantee the contract.

The opponents are sitting on 10 ♥s and 8 ♣s combined with 22 HCP, yet they were both quiet in the 1st round of bidding. This is quite interesting to me. Why are they so quiet? What hands could they have? Surely neither of them has a singleton ♦?!
Based on this I picture hands like...
xx (10-12)
xxxxx
xx
xxxx
x (10-12)
xxxxx
xxx
xxxx
What else could they possibly have to not want to make noise in the 1st round? Even given these hands I cannot imagine why they have been so quiet.

I think this holds true because a non-idiot does not have to accuse his partner of being an idiot; rather, he knows when his partner is an idiot and knows it does no good to call his partner an idiot.
ETA: T2 diamond A is good.

As an aside, it's nice to see the times I had connection problems might cause people to think I'm a better player

You did it exactly right.
I wonder what your partner would have said had you ducked and a ♦ return been ruffed. Risking a +620 for a +650 makes no sense at all especially since the IMP difference between the scores is a big fat ZERO.

I can't deny some of that is true in this case
But also I'm still figuring out the difference between IMPS and MP.
Thanks all,

At MPs, it is a much more difficult problem. I would still play the ♦A, as I find it hard to believe that there are many players sitting East who would shift to a diamond looking at that dummy if they have the ♦K.

If the auction were uncontested at IMPS, VUL:
1D-1S
2S....bidding 4S would still be right, and not agressive.
