After five years, looks like I am leaving MathWorks and joining Akamai for what could be the coolest job ever.

How weird. You and I could hardly be more different in temperament, yet we've overlapped so much in our careers: We've both been to MIT (me undergrad, you at the Sloan School), we overlapped for a while at Symantec, and now you're going to Akamai, where I spent 5 years before jumping to BBO 7 months ago.
Akamai is definitely a great place to work, I think you'll enjoy it.

As to the job, I know nothing about it but the title suggests that you may not be able to freely let us know the details of what you are doing. Too bad, I always enjoyed reading posts about your professional interests. I recall when a friend took a job at NSA. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was working. I asked if he could be more specific and he said no. Probably he reported the conversation. I was young at the time and didn't know better.

Staying put for now, though this means an hour+ commute (luckily its on the train)
Nothing too mysterious about the job. I'll be working for a group that is charted to defend against distributed denial of service attacks.
I probably won't be going into specifics...
