I'd pass. If you bid with cheese like this, partner will never believe that you have a hand truly worthy of a response.

1 for me. The seventh spade is worth a few points and J is likely to be a useful card.

1 for me, also.

If partner rebids 1NT, 2 by me means that we are in a great spot.

If partner rebids 2, I am very unhappy.

If partner rebids 2, I have two decent options.

If partner rebids 2 or a higher raise, I am very happy.

If partner rebids 2NT, we end up in a great spot.

If partner jumps to 3 or 3, I am not happy.

If partner rebids hearts with or without a jump, I am happy.

When I calculate all of this, I like bidding more than passing.

And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

Nobody should pass with this, imho.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Perhaps I should say more instead of simply dismissing the pass. I do think pass is horrible though!

The main reason for bidding 1S (or 2S, if you play weak jumpshifts) is that sometimes you have a spade game. You don't need that much from partner, just some fitting cards. If you pass, it will be tough to reach those games after the opponents reopen, and impossible if they don't.

Another upside is that bidding may make it harder for the opponents to find their game. This isn't always the case, but 1H - p - p is usually easier to bid over than 1H - p - 1S or 1H - p - 2S.

Having a 7-card spade suit tremendously lowers the risk of bidding 1S. As Rexford pointed out, if partner rebids 2NT (often the worst case for responding light) then you are not in a bad spot at all. I agree with Ken that the only bad rebid for partner is 3m, but even in that case you might make 4S.

As I see it the upsides for bidding far outweigh the downsides.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
