My mother is thinking of getting a tablet (probably an Android one) for my father, and wonders if there is any reasonably good bridge playing software available for it.

Has anybody here tried, say, the Bridge Baron tablet app? Or got any other recommendations?

I have Bridge Baron on my iPad. Works fine. Not sure it has all the bells and whistles of the full blown version though.

What would you say its standard was? Does it bid and play reasonably soundly, or is it an endless source of frustration? Fancy features are not as important (to him), as long as it plays to a reasonable standard.

iBridgePlus (iBridgePlus) works well with iphone as well as iPad. Based on Q Plus engine. Your pd will be the QPlus Bot.
I like the Team Play ( configurable 4,8,12..24 deals) on that. Closed Room will be 2 QPlus bots.

Think is about $20 for Lifetime play. Available as free download to try out a few sample hands.
Very satisfied with the Play and bidding. Graphics basically designed for iphone ( very good ) and multiplied by 2 for the iPad ( not so good ).
Understand they are working on an upgrade to optimize the graphics for the Retina display "new ipad"
Bridge Players do it with Finesse

I would say BB is reasonable, not great. BTW, iirc, it was free.

Go for a name that is already renowned for bridge software. It is easy to convert good software to tablet format. It is less easy to write good software in the first place.

Yes. on most 10" android tablets with Android v2.3+ it is possible to play BBO online.
On smaller screen it is less comfortable.
there is a trick though: the login page seems to be mulfunction but there is a workaround. type your username. before typing your password press the Backspace key 12 times. then type the password and you will be able to login.
