my experiences with GIB, usually you would need honors in clubs, not length like xxxx.
KQX would be good, since you dont have those maybe 3♦ would say I have good
diamonds for sure not clubs.

After 1minor - 1Major - 2Major, GIB bids the cheapest 3+ card suit with 11+ total points. It's not a help suit try, since it doesn't show any particular quality of the suit, just length.

GIB's responses to the game try are:

3N: Balanced maximum (14-15 HCP), no royal cards in the Major.
4Major: 14+ HCP with royals in the Major, 13+ HCP with KQx(x) in the trial suit, or 12+ HCP and singleton or void in the unbid suit.
3Major: other hands

In addition, in the auction 1minor - 1♥ - 2♥- 2{SP], opener can bid 2N to show a balanced minimum.

Of course, in this case North knows he's going to game with an opening hand opposite partner's opening hand. Is he using this as a slam try?

too bad theres not a way to categorize all these bids somewhere and what their ramifications are.
