This line appears on John Hurds BBO profile. I didn't know you had taken up football, is there a good story to it?

justin and johnny are both quite good at fantasy football and play in leagues with each other, hence the rivalry.

Fantasy football is not physically playing football. Different leagues work differently, but the idea is to give participants the fantasy of OWNING/MANAGING a team, not playing on one.

A lot of times (most of the times?) people have side bets/prizes involved with it. I would have imagined that these guys are very good at it, even without Jeremy's statement.

FYP.

Football is the worlds most popular sport. Only in the USA do you say football and mean something else entirely.

Semi agreed depending on which meaning of the word "fantasy" you had in mind.

I miss the days before the NFL upped the cost of providing stats to board game manufacturers so that games like Statis pro football stopped.

Reality is overrated, I much prefer a good fantasy. Best wishes to Justin, Johnny, and all.

Or, to borrow from Jimmy Stewart in Harvey, For thirty years I have struggled with reality and I am now happy to say that I have won.

In Canada we also call it football and we call "football" soccer. Is the term soccer used at all in other English speaking countries?

Tell John Hurd!
Having been born in England and raised in NZ the use of the word football in NA has always been confusing.

I'm sure it is very real for many. :)

Do you call American football, Canadian football or both "football" ?

Soccer is occasionally used in the UK but not that often.

Not sure what the Aussies do, as they have Aussie rules and I think I've heard Rugby League referred to as football by them too.

We refer to both as football. When there's a need to differentiate we'd say "CFL football" and "NFL football" even though the Canadian rules are also played at highschools and universities here as are the American rules in the US.
