Should West make an extra effort to find 6?

I have sympathy for West's decision, but I think his hand is worth 4. That might not be enough.....but East surely has a good hand in context at that juncture. He can visualize a stiff spade, and now say x Axxx KQxxxx Kx is enough....so he should make a 5 call, and it's over the West again.

I think it is biddable, but both players (especially West on the 3rd round) have to be glass half-full bidders, rather than glass half-empty.

agree west should bid 4s which makes it easier for east to jump to 6d

in any event perfect hands with perfect fits and low pt count so not easy to bid slam.

Also, agree that at least 4 should be bid by West on the way to 5 .

Also chalk me up for a 4S bid. The good raise by East should have West thinking about slam.

If East makes a 4H!-jump-cue Splinter over 2S, then West knowing that shortness-opposite-other shortness generates lots of tricks, might be more inclined to go to 6D .

I was planning to splinter with 3, but North's 2 spoiled that plan. I didn't think I could justify a 4 splinter, so I just bid 3.

I notice a lot of support for 4 from West, but is 4 not better? It leaves East room to cue 4 before West cues 4.

The problem with 4C is it feels natural, helping partner decide what to do in a competitive auction, rather than any kind of slam move or cue bid. I would guess most would bid 4c here with a hand like (12)AKxxx QJxxx if that is not a micheals for you and similar. or a bunch of 6-4 hands with a trick source in clubs.

4S and 4H are unambigously slam moves. I prefer 4H, as if partner doesnt have a spade control, then I can now drive a slam pretty much. If he does, I can still bid 5c, and give partner another chance.
