We have simple auction playing some sort of natural system, 1M-1NT-2x/3x by opps, what later DBL by either opener or responder is? Does it affect if you play SAYC, 2/1 or 2/1 with weak NT(1M 15-20NT or unbalanced). Is there any expert consensus here?

For me, doubles are usually penalty once our side has bid NT. This does not look like an exception. So I would say any doubles from here on are for penalties.

Takeout for me, by either of us. I play 2/1 so the 1N is forcing, but even in SA you are endplayed into bidding 1N with a wide range of hands so can easily have shortness in their minor.

We have a meta rule that all Xs by Opener on his second bid are takeout - usually with extra values depending on the level. (there are very very few exceptions)

By responder it is penalty-oriented - some sort of good hand with no fit for openers suit and uncertainty what to do. Basically a "partner please do something intelligent" bid.
If no one comes from the future to stop you from doing it then how bad a decision could it really be?

This is, in general, what we believe also. For the really distributional ones with the other 2 suits, we have 2N available as artificial. But there is a difference based on who is doubling; behind the interloper is definitely penalty oriented...rebalancing doubles under the bidder are more likely to be takeout oriented.

BTW, I always do a double-take on your chosen member title, bill

I'm glad everyone else understood who bid what, personally I have no clue what auction is being asked about.

Hi,

#1 I dont think there is an expert consensus, there may be a majority consensus here at BBF,
but I dont thinks there is an expert consensus.

#2 I dont think it really matters, what kind of natural system you are playing.

#3 A common agreement is, to play ALL doubles at low level for T/O, it is upto you, what you
define as low level.

#3 has the advantage, that it is simple, the disadvantage, that certain sequences scream "penalty",
and if you cant say - let it scream -, than you have to define your exception list.
You could also say, the double is always for penalty.

The NT bid in the given seq. does not contain a lot of shape information, either side may still
be intested to find a fit in the two unbid suits.
And even if the NT bid denied 4 cards in a specific suit, than the NT bidder may still want to
go looking for a fit in the unbid minor, as long as he has secondary support for openers major.

In the end take whatever you feel most comfortable with, if you cant bear it to miss a penalty
try to maximize the ways to make a penalty double, if you cant bear to loose the part score battle,
or if you are a LoTT addict, go for T/O - we go for T/O.

With kind regards
Marlowe

No, that is not the only one. OP was asking about many different scenarios after our side has started 1M (P) 1NT, and then interference has occurred ---and subsequent doubles by either opener or responder.
