If you don't double what do you bid?

As it happens the winning line appears to be to open 4H which shuts out ops who can make 5C but that never entered my head.

If playing support X then it doesn't look bad to use it here. What goes wrong in 4S?

I guess part of it depends on agreements. If you've agreed that 2D & 3H (and perhaps even 4H) here explicitly denies 3 spades, then you should definitely X.

If not playing support X, I'd bid either 2D, 3D, 3H or 4H next depending on how I'm feeling on the day. Probably 3H.

4S can go off if not played correctly. 4H is cold and 5H can make on slack defence.

I took the 3S free-bid for more ... I figured partner had some stuff in Diam .
I guess there is bad spade split too.

I would just rebid hearts. I have AKQJxx. If they can tap me playing in hearts they can probably also cut off partner from the heart suit if we play in spades. And I don't want double to end the auction.
