If LHO had passed, and you are playing standard american then (as far as I understand SA!) you would rebid 2NT to show a minimum balanced hand.
After the intervention, some people play 2♦ as somewhat weaker i.e. they can pass a 2♥ rebid. That's certainly the English style, even among people who play 2/1. That is, partner can have a hand that without the intervention would have bid 1NT, such as xx Qx AQ10xx xxxx. They are planning to pass 2H from opener. Opposite that style of 2♦ bid, you should raise to 3♦. I'd rather have a fourth trump or a singleton for that (e.g. with Kxx KQJxx Kxx xx I would rebid 2H) but this is such a bad heart suit I don't want to play there if partner can't raise voluntarily.
However, if partner thinks that 2♦ shows much the same as in an uncontested auction, and hence 2NT still shows a weak NT, then I would bid 2NT on this hand. You had a minimum opening to start with, and the auction has made it worse, so I want to make the most discouraging rebid I can. And I do have most of my HCP in spades, after all.

My thoughts were, I can raise diamonds or bid nt and my automatic bid would be to raise diamonds but in
hindsight I like nt. Raising diamonds doesn't do a lot to describe my hand and can leave partner in an awkward spot
whereas a 2N bid tells partner that I have spade control and right sides a nt contract. I think it should also
be showing diamond tolerance?

I do not play 2N here shows a weak NT, with a weak nt I expect to rebid 2H just as if partner had made a 2/1. I think going past 2h shows extras except for 3d. I dont like 3d much with a flat hand and such good spades. Also makes it harder for you to get to NT. I think if you bid 2H and partner has a GF hand they will continue with 2S if they are looking for NT, and you will behappy, or 3c in which case you can show your diamonds etc etc.
2H is the bid for me then.

2♥=Just like Phil explained weak NT hand or 6♥, if weak NT hand no ♦ supp or big Hx
2NT=Just like Francis explained, weak NT hand but with ♦ supp or if doubleton some big honor(s)
3♦=4 of them
