Help
An expert once told me that he considered Revolving Discards to be superior for suit preference although he didnt specify why. How can one method be superior to another one?

Playing revolving discards you can signal for any suit using a low card. Playing suit-preference, to signal for the highest suit you have to use a high card.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

In suit contract the problem i have with revolving discard, is that the card discarded is attitude for other suits not the suit in wich you have discared. Generally the longer the suit the more likely its the one that you want a switch in and the more likely its going to be easy to discard from this suit rather than from another suit (likely short).
S are trumps are you discard on the 3rd trumps.
There is xxxx in D on dummy (so you need to keep 4D) + mirror holding in the rounded suit.

If your shapes is 2344 or 2245 its simply easier to discard a club to ask for club than to discard a H to ask for club (and IDEM for H if your 2443,2542). Playing revolving you get the oppurtunity to ask for a D without discarding a D (wich is great for Nt) but doesnt seem to be so useful in suit contract. I dont have enough experience with revolving discard to have a strong opinion one way or another but i find its a very interesting topic.

If you were worried about both issues you could play odd - encouraging and even - revolving. This allows you to discard a low card for any suit providing you hold the correct type. I have to admit I have to come across anyone doing this.

I played this in my first partnership. Obviously it is an improvement on Italian, but by a tiny amount, and many people find revolving counter-intuitive, so I've not played it since.

In the ACBL, one is only allowed to play multi-meaning carding (such as odd-even or Lavinthal) on one's first discard.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Perhaps I'll experiment with it.
