1S-2H-3H playing 2/1 Follow-up issues when using Exclusion KC

Playing 2/1. Agreements include Exclusion Keycard.

1S-2H
3H

I see 3 possible meanings for the next 2 available spade bids:

1. Confirming a double-fit
2. Control-showing cuebid
3. Exclusion Keycard


Q1. What is it best to use 3S for?

Q2. Should 4S be EKC here, or should EKC not ever be used in partners main suit? (Both partner and I agree it probably should be RKC but we have nervous feelings that we're not considering something.)

1. 3♠ should show a double fit.

2. There are options here - I like 4♠ = RKCB and 4NT = XRKCB(S) - but it is more important to have an agreement than what it is.

Yep, this is exactly how I play it too. Even when not playing 2/1, 3♠ will be game forcing and showing a double fit.

There is another possibility for the jump to 4S. Picture bid with everything in the majors and 2-2 minors but no controls in those minors.

I like 3S to confirm a double fit. I also like it to agree spades as trump. This isn't always the best trump fit, but it clarifies further bidding.

If you usually play 3NT as serious (or frivolous) then you also have option

4. 3NT shows a double fit and 3♠ is serious (or frivolous)

...and if you play a load of system like I do, you are stuck with

5. 3♠ = shape relay, 3NT = double fit (in the context of 3H showing extras, which is not standard)

Hi,

Q1: No idea, but I prefer that 3S is a control showing bid,
showing a top honor.
We have found a fit, we play the fit. I prefer to keep
it simple.
But we basically deny a spade fit with 2H response, so
the double fit scenario is not really relevant for us.
I prefer to keep it simple.
Q2: No idea, but I dont think it is agood idea to play EKCB
in partners main suit, but given Q1, most likely it is
EKCB.

Side question: How do you play RKC-ask ( 4NT ) for a double fit ?

6KCB. In some auctions it is possible to have multiple sequences for different key card asks but I think 6KCB should be the default when a double fit is guaranteed.

We extend this further. 6KCB even when a second suit has just been been mentioned and the auction shows the other hand holds at least two cards in that suit. (NoTrump bid involved, for instance)
