I just finished playing a Best Hand tourney. At some point during the tourney this hand came up. Definately the best hand I've ever had. I've had more HCP before, but pretty sure I haven't had effectively 12 top tricks before. Any other stories of people picking up monsters?

Best I ever had was 8solid, x, Ax, AK. Partner opened 1D playing K-S, which creates a little trap in the auction....

I once saw AQ AKQxxxxxx A A on BBO, think it was a team game where han and jjbrr both held it.

I'm not sure about my best hand ever, but I do remember holding 65 high card points in a 3-board round at the club.

I've had 29 and I've seen 30 or 31 (famous hand from Las Vegas in 2001).

About 5-6 years ago I held a zero loser hand. I can't remember the details except I was playing against Carlos P.

I have related this story before when the topic of best hands came up.

When I first started to play (at about age 16), a group of friends of mine, all with little bridge experience, were playing cut around at my home. The deck was shuffled and I was offered a cut, which I turned down. The hand was dealt and the guy on my right yelled out "Oh my God! 7NT!" He held:

AKQ AKQx AKQ AKQ

This was not a fixed deal.

His partner tabled a total Yarborough - xxx xxx xxx xxxx.

The hearts were 3-3 and the contract claimed.

Semi-Finals of the Canadian National Team Championship in 1997: AKQJx AKJ9x A AK, partner opened a weak 2.

My best was like a 26 hcp balanced hand. Pard across opened 2H on a 54 with 2 jacks and assorted junk. Result: 6NT -3.

Shortly after I started playing duplicate, I picked up the only 0-loser hand I've had so far: - A K Q 10 8 4 A K Q 10 9 A K.

My partner and I were playing Benjaminised Acol, where the opening GF is 2 with a 2 negative / relay. We discovered that partner had a fit, but not a one, and reached 7. LHO then doubled; inexperienced, and worried that she had J x x x, I ran to 7 which she also doubled. However, because of the auction, partner was now playing the hand, and got the lead of a low trump.

Her hand was K 8 7 6 4 3 J 8 6 4 2 Q 3, and she had a first trick choice of finessing or playing for J to drop. As it happens, N had J and they were 3-3 so it didn't matter what she did, but I was not popular for leaving her with the problem!

My partner had an unusual problem looking at his 26 count with AKQJxx when he heard me in first seat open 2(weak).

I've preempted in front of LHO's 29 count.

Also has anybody heard partner open a "big" 2 and held better than x, A, AKxxx, Axxxxx, partner had AKQxxxxx, KQ10x, x, void and we bid 2-3-4-7N. They didn't find the spade lead to make me discard the A to make it.

I don't like picking up monster hands.

My two most memorable were :

AKQxxx

AKJxxxx

Down one in 7C when partner didn't have the queen and they split 3-0 offside... Even worse, 6S was cold on a 6-1 split when the opposition's spades were 3-3.

The other was a 26HCP balanced hand, the most I've ever picked up. Something like AKQ - KJ97 - KJ2 - AKQ. Down 2 in 3NT when partner couldn't even find a 10 to help me out.

I only vaguely remember this. The auction started out really bad for us I think (or maybe I opened 2C and the auction never got any better).

I've also experienced a 32 HCP hand at a regional. My partner held it and opened 6NT. I held nothing with 6 diamonds, so we were making a diamond slam, but the suit was blocked in NT. Seemed reasonable, I guess.

Not so long ago in a club game I picked up a hand dealt monster:

AKQJ10xxx
-
J
AKQJ

12 tricks from top and guess which red ace partner held?
We bid and made 7.

My best...

AKQxx void void AKQJT9xx

In a contested auction I guessed to bid 7 spades. Doubled. I should have redoubled. Partner had Txxx and the Jack came down stiff.

A few months ago in a local game I picked up a hand so big I took a picture of it. Not the best hand I ever had, but probably the most HCP.

So did you downgrade for bad spots?

Not enough. I should have opened 1NT, that would have kept us out of trouble.
