Had this hand on BBO tonight. Reasonably strong opps.

The auction is best left forgotten, but 4S is the final contract after LHO overcalled 2H and RHO showed a heart honor, but not enough to raise initially. Opps play UDCA and the play for the first 8 tricks is shown above. How would you play the rest of the hand?

Trump coup, west would have played a fourth heart holding the spade jack.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I think we need to know more about the opponents and their habits.

If we believe East's count signals, he's 4333, so the trump coup is right. However, that gives West xx AKJ62 xxx Axx, on which some players would prefer a takeout double to a 2 overcall.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

If East is 4333 West is 2524.

I don't know why East didn't play the HQ on the second round to try and tempt you to ruffing the third heart high and finessing out Jxx in spades. Surely he'd have thought of that with Jxxx trumps?

p.s. but I agree with Fluffy. if the event is irrelevant, take the fun line.

Oh yes. In that case, I'd definitely play the trump coup - the 2524 hand looks much more like a vulnerable overcall.
