Is anyone familiar with Marty Bergen or Chip Martel versions of Jacoby 2nt?

Good and bad points?

Preferences and comments?

Martel's is, I think, the version of J2NT that works better. But keep in mind J2NT happens every 500 hands or more, so, there's a case for playing it as invitational or better. That'll make it show up once every 200 hands lol :)

And what if you switch to 4 card majors and make it inv+?

That seems to be the best in terms of frequency, yes. As in once every 50 hands

Actually, I just came out of a live tournament, and, after 100 hands, I had a grand total of zero Bergen and J2NT raises and zero 2/1 game forces. On the other hand the 9-11 NT came out like 10 times and 5-card weak twos some 15 or so. Much more the type of convention you'd rather improve on :)

Mike.. i just read the method listed for Martel, it is very (extremely) close to the jacoby 2NT Plus method used by ETM (no doubt etm guys may have borrowed from martel or both had similar concepts). I tried Bergin Jacoby 2NT, and I like the jacoby plus (aka martel) much better.

The requirements on bergen.. all hands with voids, 3H, all two suiters 3D, etc is not that helpful. Aka, too much wasted space. I like the ability as opener to show my shortness if I want, or to ask for shortness from my partner, or to bid naturally immediately.
