Matchpoints - 1st seat, unfavourable.

J6
1098743
A1065
A

2 Opening:
-YAY
-yay
-nay
-NAY

Edit: Assume down the middle preempt style (whatever that means, but it does mean the hand is a pass at IMPs)

Which is it?
If yes, what if the heart suit was weaker?

If you've agreed "middle of the road" pre-empting style ten this isn't a pre-empt. I can remember 3 very recent hands where my partner's vulnerable pre-empts have not been up to scratch - all of them ended badly!

Strangely, 1 is tempting. But, nay on 2. I might be convinced if needing a swing.

2 offends me.

As a man who will happily open 2 off xx, xxxx, xxx, xxxx in the right seat systemically, this offends me too.

Way too much defence, likely to cause partner to do something stupid. If I open and I would consider it, 1 would cross my mind, not 2.

Let's see:

J 6
10 9 8 7 4 3
A 10 6 5
A

Lousy suit, good defense.

Pass.

(I believe that 1st and 2nd seat weak 2s should be descriptive; how can partner decide what to do if your bid can be either

J 6
K Q 10 9 4 3
Q 6 5
J 2

or the original?)
