I would dbl. If pd has 12 hcp we are 20 vs 20, one of us will make 1 NT :lol: But if pd has 13 or 14 or unbalanced 15 or whatever it is money.

If I could bid 2C natural I would do so but we play that 2C shows the majors. I think that is a good agreement, even though I wish I wasn't playing it here.

I would pass and try to beat the contract. If we defend perfectly, I expect a good MP score. If we double and it makes (not unlikely) I expect a zero.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Wow, this is way weaker than I'd be comfortable doubling. I normally want a good 10+ to double here. An average 8 count isn't doing it for me. If partner and I are both sure that 2 is natural and not inverted then I'd bid 2, otherwise I'd pass and wait.

Nobody should be allowed to play inverted minors after a 1NT overcall. That's bridge logic.

I would often double with 9.

I'd pass here. 90 from 2 beats 50 from setting them, and 100 is better if we double. But I'm afraid of finding AQ with declarer and KJ in dummy. I'd prefer double to 2, though.

Seems for common results we have:

Pass: -90/+50
2C: -100/-50/+90
X: -180/+100

Then we should just give some relative frequencies for each of the outcomes and easy time figuring which is best :P
I think pass is the easy middle way choice that probably results in good score if we just defend a trick better than most.
2C has something to do with how often opps will double you. I think they are in a pretty good position to double when it's right so it only seems tempting against worse players.
X seems to be playing for tops or zeros, but as other choices aren't so tempting I might do that. This of course depends on how light we open.

Is it possible 1NT is down?....yes, but I think it equally likely it makes, possibly with an overtrick(s). They may even have a solid part score available in .
A double here would be for penalties, so thats out for me. 2 is possible, maybe even attractive, but I think I'll pass and see if partner can do something, heck if he can X, I'd be happy to pass.

Pass = 10
2 = 7
X = 2

Might be a decent hand for the sim guys!
