4.

Partner rates to have some values and hopefully they are not all in spades. I have two more hearts than he might expect and he might be nervous about bidding with three small spades. I would also be sitting over the doubler.

Presuming I am playing decent opponents, I am not worried about them bidding four spades ... he says confidently!

Pass.

Our hand is pretty lame, partner has some spades (apparently), let 'em play.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

Depending on my agressiveness of the moment, I'd pass or Dbl. Partner is likely to have some s and some values, my K may come in handy in defense, but I don't want to commit to 4 on my own with these minor suits...

What are opp's agreements re: WJS? One such might be "no game opposite 18-19 unless it's a superaccept." If O holds 18-19, I don't want to bid 4H. Double then pull over a minor by partner seems prudent, otherwise I'll take the chance in 3SX.

Holding an 18-19 balanced hand opposite a vulnerable jump to the 3-level they would bid game.

pass immediately.

I think bidding 4H is lunacy.

Qxx of LHO suit with a preempter to my right is such a bad holding.

partner can hold AQx Qx AKxx Jxxx and this 4H contract is hopeless.

I know partner doesn't have a 16 count, but AK and a club ruff and K likely to my left makes bidding again quite poor.

Pass

I am more happy in 3 than 4 and 4 may give them more than 4, my hand is full of losers, how many of them can pd cover with his silence ?

I dont like my hand much. I was not that far from
bidding 3h vs 1h. Having said that there are times
at IMPS where risk vs reward seems to tip the balance
in favor of an aggressive decision that would be
very poor in MP. Since the odds seem tiny that we
would be x in 4h or the opps would suddenly decide
4s is a good idea put me down for the group
that bid

4h

I do not care for my defensive prospects in 3sX and
I would pull 4 of a minor to 4h anyway so why play
around???

I'd pass, because I have defensive (non-offensive) holdings in all three side-suits. The two extra hearts don't justify bidding to the four level by myself.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

No, really, I just asked RHO, and s/he said "No game opposite 18-19 balanced unless it's a superaccept." What did they say when you asked them?

:P Pass, wtp? Except for your 7-bagger, everything is wrong with your hand - the stiff K in , the soft minor suit queens.

You must be very lucky indeed, always doubling for a 1 trick set. Is partner supposed to pull this if he can't beat it in his own hand?

Is partner supposed to always pass a dbl that simply says "do something"?
