Why did North bid over 4NT? The appropriateness of the 4NT bid is, of course, not relevant to this conversation.

Clearly North bid 6♣ over 4NT because it meets the definition required by the call hands down.
Quoting the explanation of the bid:
"4+ C" - Clearly, AJ7 is at least as good as xxxx.
"16- HCP" - No doubt that he has that.
"16+ total points" - Add to the 13 actual HCP held one point for the doubleton heart (by all means, don't subtract the point for the ♥J), the ♦10 and the ♠98 must be worth something, and the massive club support. I am surprised GIB didn't jump to 7 (or 8!).
"Likely stop in diamonds" - AT76 is huge! Maybe the suit will run.
So stop your whining. If you didn't make 12 tricks opposite this magnificent hand, it is your fault entirely. Your pull to 6NT was the clear error, as 6♣ is COLD!
