Users can not delete an account, but here is something you can do.

1.) If you have a username no one esle is also using, just stop using it. That in effect makes it "deleted" as it never shows up again.
2.) If you have a username that others use, log on using it, change the password to a bunch of random letters and numbers and log off. No one will be able to use it and if you didn't write down the password, neither will you.

Occassinally, old usernames that are not used are deleted by the system/uday. And even sometimes, a username a current player wants and is no longer used (and I mean for years) by someone else, the username will be freed up for the regular user who wants it.

If you have an account you want to close (stop using) and it has money associated with it, youi can move the money over to another account. If you purchased some online content with a username and you want to move it to another onlline username, contact accounting at bridgebase dot com or support at the same address and explain the problem. They should be able to help with that.

I'm a newuser of BBO (although having an account for
a while). Just today I learned how to set up a casual
table and invite other users.

I had wanted to set-up a temporary account for
testing how invitations look, how searching for my
own username looks, what friend-ing my username
looks to others, but I see from this thread that
usernames cannot be deleted.

I don't feel comfortable setting up a temp
account that I'll use one for an hour, and
then never use again.

Is there a public testing username that
one can use (either with no password, or
with a publicly known password), for users
to test with?

Cheers, -gentsquash

No, there isn't.

Just create the new username, we don't mind.
