Hi there. I would like to post wich is (for me) a simple question, but yet cant agree with my regular partner.
You play 2/1 GF.
At matchpoints, 4th seat, White against Red you receive:
x
AQx
AQxxxx
xxx

The bidding goes Pass - Pass - 2 (weak), to you
What would you bid?
Tx in advance

Pass. They have about half the deck, or so. If They have a spade fit, they will outbid our alleged fit to break even. Other results of doubling or bidding 3D are probably worse.

I have suspicions about vul weak-two's in 3rd seat. Hal Kandler did it on solid 10-1-1-1 back in the early sixties.

3 for me, but pass is an attractive alternative. I just don't get double--a decent six carder and only 3-3 in the rounded suits suggest overcalling.

I think it is criminal to pass this at MPs. The diamond suit isn't really good enough to insist on, and I'm not unhappy playing in 3 of a round suit.

Double seems like a winner here, but it is not clear.

BTW I like how Justin and Jeremy are "abusing" the forum, but Phil is not.
Yay for the "Ignored Users" feature!

Lurpoa,

Posting an on topic reply of what we would bid is not "forum abuse." I am sorry if you would prefer a longer post explaining our deep thoughts on why we would bid it, you are not entitled to it, and not giving it does not constitute "forum abuse."

Triple posting with annoying hearts asking everyone why seems closer to forum abuse. You could easily multi quote and ask why, or simply ask the posters to expound on their thoughts in a polite way rather than accusing them of forum abuse and then demanding (not asking) why, in the process triple posting and wasting space. Meanwhile, you have once again contributed nothing meaningful to the thread.

3 for me. It's match points and I likely have the best hand at the table - I can't sell out to 2M, else Larry would never team with me! Also, I'm the one short in spades so I need to act. Also w/r seems like bidding to the 3 level is super right. If my shape was 5 and 4 I'd be fine doubling with the 3 card , but with 6 I want to emphasize . But based on responses, looks like double might have more going for it then I'd originally though.

seems like an obvious 3D or double. Pass is way too chicken here when white. The problem of double is that you may miss your good 6-3 or 6-2 fit in D. The problem of 3D is that you may miss some good 5-3 fit in C or H or some quite unlikely penalty bonus in 2S x. So these two decisions are quite close.

I voted 3D but have no trouble admitting there are lots of times pass or double would have led to a better result.

There is another problem with 3D. You could go for a telephone number opposite your passed partner.

3D.

I have a 6 card suit, and no 4 card heart suit beside,
so I show my 6 card suit.

If you play ELC, than the charme of X would be higher,
I still would bid 3D.

Does that mean if we bid 3 then we can expect Tx in support?

I joke! I joke, I joke, I joke..... My choice is 3, simple-minded perhaps, but I have always been one to bid what I'm looking at.

LHO is a passed hand too. This is possible, but unlikely. One could invoke the First Commandment of Bridge: "Thou may steal, but thou should never be stolen from."

3D, but I like double as well. Will never consider pass.

It's not as simple as you may think because both 3 and Dbl have merrit. I prefer 3 opposite a passed partner and Dbl opposite an unpassed partner.
