Bidding Question IV

1) Bid 3NT. You only have 2 clubs (though very nice), and a minimum balanced 2C opener. 3NT describes you hand well. South can speak if he wants to.
2) Not sure I understand the question - it would depend on South's hand. With the hand shown, I would pass.
3) If North bid 4C I would assume good 3 card support. At IMPs I would bid 6C, at matchpoints 6NT.

In answer to Q1:
A 3D rebid seems an obvious rebid over 3C
In answer to Q2:
I don't understand the 3C response.
Most people would treat this as bid an artifical second negative.
Even if you don't, a 2NT rebid looks like a MUCH better description of this hand. [Frankly, I think that the hand is probably worth showing a balanced positive over a 2C opening]
I would prefer to declare 6C to 6NT.
Playing in clubs makes transportation much easier

Hi Marmot,
nice hand.
For your questions:
Q1. should North sign off at 3NT or continue pushing to 4C and seek possibility of 6C?
He should bid 3 Diamond to describe his hand
Q2. For this type of hand, if North bid 3NT, should south push?
Depends on what North promised. If he promissed 23-24 HCPs he may pass after North denied club support. At least I like to be in 3 NT with 32 HCPS and no good length aside. & NT is too often down.
Q3. Following is south's hand, if north push to 6, between 6C and 6NT, which one would you pick?
In Matchpoints 6 NT. My hand does not look like there are many ruffing values.
In the actual hand however, 6 club is much better. Many finesses to be taken, nearly no play in 6 NT, some chances in 6 Club. :-)
nice hand.

Another alternative view....
Q1. should North sign off at 3NT or continue pushing to 4C and seek possibility of 6C?
North's mistake was not bidding 2NT over 2D. He has a balanced hand, 23-24 hcp. Simple. Now he will not have the worry about what to bid over 3C, he would have described his hand. If partner is interested in investigating slam he can use puppet stayman or show a good CLUB suit with a 3S bid himself.
Q2. For this type of hand, if North bid 3NT, should south push?
Absolutely, I play 2C-2S-3C-3NT as a better hand that what north actually held. The question should be, if North shows a balanced 23-24 should south try for slam. Again the answer is yes, but with a 3S bid over 2NT showing clubs. When north bids 3NT, South can raise to 4NT as an invite to slam, not blackwood.
Q3. Following is south's hand, if north push to 6, between 6C and 6NT, which one would you pick?

Six clubs hoping that a) they do not to lead my spade suit..., and the diamond Q will be entry to dummy. Now I win 3H, 3D, 5C, 1S with no finesse. On a spade lead, you are pretty much toast, and if WEST has diamond Kxx or longer, you could be eqully toasted (although 3-3 diamonds, 3-3 clubs, and diamond king on side, you always have 12 tricks (5C with CQ overtake, 4D (with hook), 3H and 1S. I think an auction like
2C-2D
2N-3S
3N-4N
Pass ............... looks just about right.

I am overwhelmed with so many replies! Thanks all.
2C - 2D(waiting)
2S - ?
I am new to 2D-waiting, according to Hrothgar, so here 2NT is balanced shape, positive; 3C is weak?
If South bid 2NT, is there any hope N-S can find out club fit?
Best Regards,

After reading your guys analysis, I feel better
Every time, when I have this kind of thin slam, I see most BBO players go for it.
A question to you guys: what percentage do you feel comfortable to try a slam?
For me, my line is 50%. If it is less than 50%, I won't try. How do you think?
Thanks!
