Also;

- Eventhough it looks like one, 7M + 5 minor should not be treated as 2 suiter. Who on earth wants his pd to prefer a Q high 5 card suit when pd is void in ? U wanna play to a 5-2 or 5-3 fit when pd is void or stiff in suit ?

-Most of the famous bridge conventions are invented to find a major fit, yet here North, holding it in his own hand, acts as if he needs a preference from pd to decide which suit to set as trumps !

-North's hand plays 4 vs pd's J and nothing else.

-Yes south was wimpy with this hand, but who cares ? After all they would be playing the sane contract (if opps let them) when South holding JT9xx x QJxxx Jx and 4 still great contract and noone would even mention south's role in this disaster.

Hi, yes.

Nice to hear your reasoning. Thanks, seems very plausible what you are saying.

Altho I dislike S's action, North deserves the equivalent of 100% of the blame all by himself.

But I disagree with those who criticize his initial action. Yes, there are reasonable alternatives, I suppose, but I have no issue at all with Michaels, provided that he follows through. Thus, over any minimal advance, whether 2N or 3m, he bids 4. Surely this shows 6/7 good hearts and a 5/6 card minor...a hand worth committing to game but with wild shape (which is why no double).

While nothing is perfect, we do know that Michaels will not be passed (ok, I once saw it passed....spades were 5=0=0=8 and partner held QJ9xxxxx and nothing else), and, should partner have values, we will usually be able to convey a fairly accurate picture of our hand, unless we do something egregious, such as show our minor first B-)

I agree and i have no objection whatsoever about how one chooses to start the auction, as long as he/she does not stop b4 4, and bids in a way that pd converts to ONLY when he has 4 or more and shortness. I think it is awful if we bid in a way that leads pd converting 4 to 5 when holding void and Jxx.

North described his hand as a simple 5-5, while he holds a monster 7-5. Guess who to blame.

Please read the entire thread. In particular, MrAce already explained above "why". I see no reason to question every person who agrees with him that North is 100% to blame (and yes, South has additional blame on top of it) to elaborate on all the same reasons every time.

I too think North is 100% to blame. I refer you to MrAce's post to explain "why" for myself and every other person who thinks the same way and does not explain further.

Furthermore, Free didn't say that you wrote said things, but that he Fixed Your Post (FYP). It is his way of not so subtly reminding you that a large majority of this forum would appreciate fewer symbols--just as we appreciate when people DO NOT WRITE ALL IN CAPS and do not use excessive and abusive symbols!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We understand now.... FYP was as Tamoel for us.
But you are right, people should try to be more clear in what they write, and not alway say "I agree" or "no, I do not agree". They should be more friendly... too much agressiveness here.... don't you think so ?

Yes, we agree with you, and believe that things should change....

We lve you all.

PS: We got feedback from some friends, that at least our postings are giving some colour to this forum. Most of them love the formatting, and think it makes things much easier to read....

:P All the right lessons have been covered by responders, save one. How do you get to the very high percentage 6 contract? I guess 4 is the best initial bid by North (red vs white it shows about 9- tricks). Double doesn't feel right, and 2 risks being passed out. IMHO, 2 is ludicrous with a one suited hand.
Soooo, should South move over 4? I think so, and a clutzy 5 call would be my choice. You have no way I can see to find out about both trump quality and spade control, so why not ask pard about the overall quality of his hand for slam. You can count plenty of tricks (6+ , 5 and a ), IF you can get them without losing two tricks somewhere first. RKC for is fine if you are willing to assume a stiff or void spade with North, and no uppercut or ruff situation.

Not sure we want to be part of that world of FYP and oh(!) FYOM.....
I myself, was teached by my grand-dad that "bridge is a sport for gentlemen". Gentlemen use words to speak....whether it is English, French or Hindi....or whatever...certainly when they communicate on an international forum, and they do not make fun of people when they happen not to understand their slang. So please take more care when you write something here.

In fairness, I thought FYP was "follow your partner" for a while when first on these forums. I still find it one of the more obscure acronyms used on BBF.

I mean the correct explanation of any acronym used on BBF is almost always the 1st definition on urbandictionary.com. I have been here for about 5 years but I still see some new acronyms. It's not so difficult to understand if you google it/look it up on urbandictionary.
