Another wacky "bid this to 6c" using standard-ish 2/1 methods

North deals, no opposition bidding, IMPs

Best I can come up with is:

1 - 2
2 - 3
4 - 4
6

Is this realistic? It requires to North make some prescient assumptions. First, the awesome 4 bid assumes:
- 3 was not an attempt to get to 3NT looking for a Diamond stopper
- we are giving up on spades as trumps (as 2 only promised 5) ... unless of course a 4 bid by South is passable. (I don't think it is .. is it?)

Then, after hearing about the 6-5 and realizing he may have the magic hand, the raise to 6 still assumes partner has no wasted values (like a stiff spade honor) and a one loser Heart suit opposite 10x.

Some of these 2/1 auctions drive me crazy. Do you think you would get to 6?
If no one comes from the future to stop you from doing it then how bad a decision could it really be?

Some would start from 2H for 5-6 shape.
1S 2H
2S(showing weakness) 3C(showing 5)
4C(fit) 4D(RKC)
...

From 2C,
1S 2C
2D(showing weakness) 2H(natural)
2S(6+S) 3H(natural, 5-6)
4C(C fit) 4D(RKC)
...

Your auction seems okay.

I wonder if these threads would be more interesting and informative if you put the North and South hands in spoiler brackets, told people to open North if they were born on an odd-numbered day and South if even-numbered, had each post in spoiler brackets (with North: or South: above) with their bids/thoughts and then posted (without spoiler brackets) one side's bid once there's enough support for one bid, or something similar. Then at the end you could post the hand and have people put up their own wonderful sequences.

Maybe I'll try that when I have a good pair of hands if there's any support for the idea.

Yes, that would be much better, it's so hard not to "monday morning" these hands.

I mean, in retrospect, it's "obvious" that North should be raising clubs. But based on some of the 2/1 2 bids we have to make, I'm not so sure it's clear :)

Is the 4 bid really showing the 5-6 hand AFTER the 4 suit agreement?
Or is it a - Ctrl cue ( thus denying a - Ctrl as in BoB Elliot's example: " What if south has x KQJx xx AQxxxx ? " .

Since are agreed at the 4-level, Kickback ( 4D! ) becomes RKC and South is ready to "ask" after 4 .

Hi,

3NT instead of 4C is a real option, responder just showed a 5-4 shape
with game forcing strength, opener has a min opening bid, a semi bal.
hand, he should suggest 3NT as a contract.
After 3NT responder could and should still bid 4H, now he has shown a
6-5 hand, with both Aces in the side suits and a primary fit will move
on.

With kind regards
Marlowe

I prefer 4M, when it's been bid previously and is still a possible strain, not to be a cuebid. This is a "choice of games takes precedence over slam tries" sort of philosophy.

I like this auction, and it is very realistic.

North might bid 4 over 4 in case South is looking for a grand.

How do you do spoiler brackets?
