I open 1 Diamond.
LHO Doubles.
Partner Redoubles.
RHO Passes.

Could somebody tell me specifically what Partner's "redouble" says about his or her hand.

Thanks.

Pd has 10+ hcp, no fit in your suit usually and willing to punish them (he has good defense in at least 2 of the unbid 3 suits). This is the good old standart meaning of RDBL unless pdships agrees otherwise. Also pd will start RDBL if his long suit is , since 2 will be nonforcing. ( After their DBL 1 level responses are 4+ cards and forcing 1 round while 2 level non jump responses are nonforcing)

Opener is expected to pass normally. If he chooses to bid, he shows a shapely and a weak hand. If he passes and later lifts his pd's penalty DBL, that shows shapely and good hand.
