Dickie..., you posted a similar situation on July 5th ( in the B & I forum ) : http://www.bridgebas...s-how-many-pts/
There, paulg offered a good solution: to open 1C and make an artifical 2D! reverse to establish a GF with a follow-up bid showing a long Club suit.
[ It is the only artifical Reverse sequence needed to establish a GF ( 1C open and 1S response; all others have jump-shifts available to GF ) ] .
Here however, partner will make an immediate 3C GF rebid ( 2H! would be Lebensohl as the start of a sign-off):
1C - 1S
2D! - 3C ( GF )
4C! ( Minorwood after agreement in a GF situation) - 4NT! ( 4th step = 2 + cQ )
5D! ( kickback for specific K's ) - 6C ( "ain't got any" )
TWOferBRIDGE
"imo by far in bridge the least understood concept is how to bid over a jump-shift
( 1M-1NT!-3m-?? )." ....Justin Lall
" Did someone mention relays? " .... Zelandakh
K-Rex to Mikeh : " Sometimes you drive me nuts " .

Thank you. My partner opened 5♣ and thats where we played it. Your suggestion of reversing with 2♦ was exactly what I told partner how the bidding should have gone. In fact your auction including minorwood [ we use kickback] was exactly what we came up with afterwords.
We were interested if someone might have anything else that was logical.
Thanks again

I am not so sure, opener has a 8 card suit, ..., so you will also have lots of company in 5C,
at least playing IMPs.
With kind regards

This auction is ridiculous enough to hurt my eyes. Did opener really just make a non-forcing call with a good 8 card suit and a side AQx? did responder really just bid 3nt with 4 card support, two side controls and a slow/dubious stopper in diamonds?

How else can you arrive at 3NT?

After 1C - 1S, it seems normal to bid 2D. The hand is far too strong to bid 3C and there is no other alternative.
After 2D, east should jump to 4C to show his great 4+ support and his slam suitable hand. West will end up asking for keycards, but east won't cooperate with a grand slam try.

Disagree.
I want to be in 6♣ if you take away the ♦J.
We are (very) close to 100% on a diamond lead and better than 50% on any other lead.
If I knew partner had two key-cards (aces) and four clubs I want to play slam without knowing another card in her hand.
I believe that the USA currently hold only the World Championship For People Who Still Bid Like Your Auntie Gladys - dburn
dunno how to play 4 card majors - JLOGIC
True but I know Standard American and what better reason could I have for playing Precision? - Hideous Hog

It could be worse, partner could have four small clubs and K♦ instead of J for the laydown grand played in 3N.

With 3C available to show extras, and Leben available to deny them, the space consuming jump to 4C will not amuse a partner who would have liked to employ Minorwood.
