You are playing with an expert, you have discussed responsive doubles, but do not have clear agreement about this auction. What would you expect the 2nd X to show?

Dbl = I want to compete but don't know in which suit. Usually it's not with , so it suggests minors.

Unless someone is messing around, there are not enough points in the deck to need a general value call. Perhaps this double should be part of a package, including 3S and 3NT in addition to the double --each suggesting different distributions.

X=less extreme (minors)
3NT=extreme in minors
3S=4H and a 6+minor?

2NT in this position can be pretty low on hcp, so I'd say this is roughly equivalent to

1M dbl 3M dbl.

Was 2NT some type of spade raise?
Double is hand wanting to compete with exactly 3 hearts.
2=3=4=4 most likely pattern.
With fewer hearts advancer should have a suit worth
bidding.

I do not understand this 4-4 minors opinions. 2NT bid is forcing to 3, why shd i show 4-4 minors ? This DBL means 2NT bidder is full of ..it ! Or the opener opened with a very light hand. If i have 5-4 5-5 minors i can always bid 3 nt.

Often the case is 2 NT is alerted as limit or better but usually what we see is 7-9 hcp with a stiff (sometimes even lighter)

I will DBL with all balanced and 10 + hcps, regardless of holding 4+4m, 4-4 minors, or 4333 any 4 card suit. I am not bidding 3 here with only 4. Pd will never know when to bid 5 or pass or DBL if we do this both with 4 9-10 hcp and weak unbalanced hands with longer IMO.

As originally defined, 7-9hcp plus a singleton is a limit raise!

Opener may have opened light, responder may have invited light. So we can have some part score or game for our side. Nobody says 3 makes, but it usually won't be defeated many tricks. 3x-1 is only +100, while 4m= is +130. Dbl also shows values so we can still penalize opps, bid 3NT,...

Yes, but people here seems to think pd will not have enough to make a "general strength" values. Which is incorrect.

is also a LROB, when pd doubles 2NT you know LROB is something like the 1st example or as i said earlier even lighter if they are messing with you. My point is, it seems to me that late fashion is to bid 2 NT first with a lot of hands that used to bid 4 major in the past.

Of course its responsive.

(edit) but I would not characterize the poll choices as being mutually exclusive. A responsive double can include a hand with both minors. It can also include a balanced hand with some points that wants to 'compete'.
