MP, r/r, but I suspect the answer doesn't change at IMPs. If it does, please explain.

Standard carding and honor leads, including ace from AK. Primary signal is attitude.

T1: A, 5, ?

Am I playing the queen so that he can underlead (but what if he's got Ax), the 7 to encourage (but what if he continues with the K? What's my card at T2?), or the 2 to discourage (and risk the club trick going away on, say, AQxxx of diamonds)?

I would encourage without playing the queen.

Playing the queen could cost a trick if partner lead ACE from Ax, singleton A, or Axx (third one not very likely). You surely would not discourage as you have no interest in a diamond lead. If partner is known to be longish in clubs (from his bidding or opponents bidding, which is not the case here) I would then choose to play the club QUEEN.

BTW, the most we can hope is partner can hold is about 10 HCP (giving south only 16 hcp), and probably less on the bidding. IF he has the AK of clubs, he is unlikley to have another ace, so it is fairly unlikely we can defeat this but give it the old college try.

So if you encourage the 7, declarer follows with the 6. Partner continues the CK. The appropriate card?

I think the reason that was not replied was due to your questions.

Letme explain why;

-You are worried what if pd started with an unprotected Ace. If thats the case u already blew your thiny chance of defeating this contract. Unless pd also has AQ of and we are scoring 3 more tricks, which makes playing Q still helpful for pd, he will know we dont have the K.

- Considering opener did not even make a game try, he must have a lot of HCPS or decent shape. That reduces our chance to defeat even if pd has A, A, QT9..

So i dont think you shd worry about pd starting with an unprotected Ace.

Now for your 2nd concern, which made you worried about declarer holding AQxxx and will be discarded from dummy...

- That makes declarer holding 5++5 and in order to think our cashing 2nd is relevant we end up with these shapes, 5152 or 5053 6052. Which means u are worrying too much and what u signal is still irrelevant :)

I think pd has the K of , after all the guy did not bid 1-2-6. I would not worry much if pd led the unprotected Ace, if he did we don't have much future in this event anyway, even if that unprotected A is the only way to defeat this current contract.

You couldn't wait the extra 3/4 of a day? :P

I encourage with the 7. No need to give partner a strong signal that he can underlead when it can cost sometimes (and there's no great reason we'd like to be on lead). Discouraging with no good shift makes no sense, especially given that it's matchpoints.

Either you play suit preference or count now. In either case, I play 4 (I have no particular suit preference).
