What is your plan with this hand?

We DO play 3 shows the invitational hand with good 6 card suit .. but I'm not sure this is the right hand for it. Ragged diamonds and most of your values in clubs. Partner rates to have a fistful of major suit cards. Are you bidding 3 anyway?

However if you respond 1NT, what are you bidding over 2? What about 2?
If no one comes from the future to stop you from doing it then how bad a decision could it really be?

If you play 3 here as invitational with a good 6 card diamond suit, then I don't see why you wouldn't use that bid for this hand.

It isn't perfect (what is your definition of "good"?), but it sure matches the description of the call.

IMO, if you use a direct 3D as 10-12 with a decent 6-bagger, you have to do it with this hand. Otherwise, if pard rebids 2, you will either have to overstate your hand with 2NT or understate it with 3 on the next round.

We have different agreements (direct 3D is the weaker one but not as weak as Pass), and different concerns on this hand. After forcing 1NT, and a 2 rebid, I think 2D is sufficient. I don't want to raise for a 4-3 fit and suspect partner has 3 hearts and only 2 diamonds. Partner might surprise by bidding again to show pattern and extras, and we can find 3NT or 5C.

1NT for me, this suit is quite poor to bid 3 imo.

1nt

if pard rebids 2c then I rebid 3d which is 6+D less than invitational values.

If pard rebids 2s I pass.

The OP only asked about what the 2 and 2 rebids. Over 2 I'll bid either 2NT or 2 depending on how I feel at the moment.

Not exactly. OP first asked what is your plan with the hand. A plan which is ill-prepared for a likely follow-up is not a good thing. While 2NT is just a bit of an overbid when opener rebids 2H, 2S on a singleton cannot be right.

1NT, then
2->2 (slight underbid but we will be in a makeable contract)
2->2NT (slight overbid but no reason to think 3 is easier)
2->pass
2NT->3NT

Agree with 1NT, and definitely 2NT over 2H. The fact that 2S can be the best contract doesn't mean that 2S can be the right bid with this hand.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

To see what the "right bid" is, you'd have to run a simulation.
