4H might end the auction, but you're right. Plus there's a funny story.

Do you really have two places to play? What would partner bid with Tx-Tx in the reds?

I also bid 2NT, but I'm sure 4 is the experts choice.

I agree with pooltuna. I would start by showing a 2 suiter. We could easily have a slam and that will keep us in play, and it will make it harder for partner to evaluate what to do later in the auction if we have a decision over 5S.

Bidding 4H now might help us slightly if we can shut them out of bidding 4S where had we bid 2S we would not, but imo that is unlikely with this hand type.

Edit: Sorry just got a new computer and thought it said 1S lol. I would bid 2N rather than michaels then obv. My main point was to show both suits.

My only concern with bidding 4H is that partner might expect I have a weaker preemptive hand and we possibly miss a slam....

I do not want to give up the possible slam, so, 2NT.

But my partner probably has 8 's

My friend was West and made the (to my mind) strange call of double. EW lurched to 6H, but East didn't like the looks of that and converted to 6NT. South then got greedy and doubled. West didn't like the looks of THAT and pulled to 7D, which South also doubled. After some agonizing North led his stiff, and that was that.

C'mon Han, more like 99%, everyone knows you lead trumps against a grand slam.

Prefer to bid 1C over righty's 1C opening, then 6D.

I'd just bury the diamonds and bid some nr of hearts. Probably 4, eventually taking the push to 5.

If pard has fitting diamond honors they'll be helpful anyway.

Even if trumps are 0-4, clubs then need to be split 0-8 or the most unlikely North holding the the AC or a bad break in hearts.

The point of a 0-4 trump split is that the opening leader can't start a trump. In that case, he has a choice of 3 suits which makes it a 66,67% grand slam (while we're joking) :)

Not 66,67% actually. All things being equal, if North has, say, 5044 he has a 5/13 chance to select a spade. (while we're being picky :P)
