Does East pass waiting for partners reopening double or does he bid NT?

If NT 1 or 2?

Please note EW are red vs white

Thank you

This East bids 1NT (8-10). Not waiting to get rich at the one-level, nor waiting to try to catch up later if things develop differently.

I am one reason why Justin says his 1H overcall probably won't matter much on this thread:

I prefer 1N than Pass for expecting reopening double.

pass wins when you can not make 3NT, 1NT wins when you can make. Partner were likely(although not necessary) to open 1NT if you have enough HCP to make 3NT so I vote for pass.

That does not compute. 1NT wins if you belong in 1NT. I guess you are planning to beat 1H 2 tricks doubled. that won't happen

Agree. I would certainly bid 1NT. Passing is a crapshoot.

1NT is normal, I don't feel the need to do something else.

To have a game here requires pard to be 15-17 (thus unbalanced with 5 clubs) or 18-19 bal/unbal. Pard will probably bid with those two kinds of hands, so you can afford to pass here.

I think I would indeed pass. If this gets passed out, it will probably be a good contract for our side

I would totally pass, don't see why this can't be -2 on a partscore hand.

Does your partner often open 1NT with a singleton heart? (Or, for that matter, 4225 shape.)

Given the vulnerability - 1NT, try to go for your own game, not for blood.

It is close, but 1NT it is.

Pass for me.

If you don't pass here, are you ever making a trap pass at this vulnerability?

The vast majority of the time, bidding 1NT means we play in a partial. A lot of these hands will make +300 our way defending 1X.

1NT is fine, but it has little upside. If you want to play for dough, pass and pull the trigger on them. Even if it only is down 1, opponents are more scared of you the next time.

If i pass and prd makes reopening dbl am i going to pass to that; no. So i might as well bid right now 1Nt. If prd goes further on, great; if not, even better.

EW are red vs white

IMO Pass = 10, 1N = 8, 2N = 7

Maybe I'm deciding this based only on a bad experience or two, but I bid 1N.

But - I would pass if my hearts were QJT6x or QJ98x. The difference is that dummy can't now pick up a trick (or equivalently deny you one somehow) with Tx and shortage.

Trump intermediates should be a big factor in deciding between playing NT and penalizing opponents.

B-) Soft and long values clinch 1NT for me, esp. at matchpoints in this vul. I can gamble for down two or down four in 1 doubled, but at this point an honest 1NT looks like it will work most of the time, plus they might slide for 2.

pass & pass partner's reopening X if it appears - if it doesn't appear, he probably has a weak NT hand, and I feel like defending 1 undoubled is as good as declaring 1N.
