In the absense of a toy, I try 1S with a partner who is unlikely to take offence to it, and pass with one who will. I am not happy with any of the 4 calls available in garden variety standard.

To consider a 1♠ overcall on a four-card suit, I like to have at least ♠ KQTx

I like overcalling 2♣ over 1♦ as much as anyone, but I would prefer a spade lead to a club lead, so why should I tell partner to lead a club?

With my concentration of values I am not bothered if partner gets excited with several clubs.

Here, it means one unspecified major plus longer other minor.

I wasn't planning to. Do you think it's interesting?
Oh alright then: partner had Axx QJ10xx xxx 9x. RHO was 3451 with ♣10.
At Frances's table this hand overcalled 1♠, thereby ensuring that Frances and her partner didn't bid a 50% 24-point 3NT. At my table, I made a rather undisciplined 2♣ overcall, and went for 500.
So compared with pass, a 1♠ overcall either gains 10 or breaks even, and a 2♣ overcall either gains 3 or loses 8. I don't think you can infer much from this single piece of data - I posted the hand because I wanted to know what other people would do, not because I thought there was anything special about the actual deal.

If you are going to say what happened, you should get the hand right. Partner had Axx QJ10xx Jxx 9x, so Frances and her partner didn't bid a 30% 23-point 3NT.

I suppose giving you a good slap is out of the question?
