Yes, that's right. I posted it because I wanted to watch all you lemmings bid 4♠, then triumphantly show you a full hand where something else would have worked.
Or maybe I posted it because I wanted to know what people would bid.

The problem with these polls is that there's no way to grade one's opinions. For me, on the three hands you have posted
- On one of them (this one) I would bid 3S, but I have no objection to 4S and certainly don't think it is 'wrong'
- On one of them I wouldn't overcall 1H myself, but I can see it might work well (and the consequences of the action chosen at the table were not solely down to the decision on whether or not to overcall 1H at this point)
- On the third one I think a 2C overcall is revolting and a 1S overcall horrible. I feel really strongly about that one, I don't feel so strongly about the other two but there's no way to show that in the poll.
Perhaps it is better to do these polls giving the table action and asking if posters strongly agree, mildly agree, have no preference, mildly disagree, strongly disagree etc

The reason for not posting a whole hand is that people are rarely objective. Most people would 'result' and I suppose that's what's being avoided by presenting only one hand.

I don't think Frances was suggesting posting the whole deal - she meant that I should post a single hand with the action that was chosen at the table.

But nearly always the action chosen will have led to some disaster otherwise the hand more than likely wouldn't be posted.

I can't speak for anybody else, but when I post a bidding problem it's because I was unsure of the correct action, or somebody disagreed with my action, or I disagreed with somebody else's action.
On the three hands I posted today, four different actions were taken. Only one of the actions taken led to a clearcut disaster.

To try to provide his subjective estimate of the relative merits of some possible calls,.a commentator may allot marks out of ten to them

One might be completely opposed to one candidate, such as the BNP, at an election, but one can only vote for one person; having degrees of preference in a poll sounds like an AV and complicates them. However, the polls on here all come with the scope to post a thread, so one can add to one's vote by expressing suitable opinions. I presume I know the one where the revolting 2C overcall was made and I concur.

Disadvantage of 3sp or 4sp opps bid 4h over 3sp-and 5hts over 4 sp
giving my partner no chance.
