Reminds me of Sontag's story of a Yorkshireman he encountered who opened 3C on about a 19 count with a string of Clubs. When the smoke cleared and he wrapped up 9 or 10 tricks or so opposite a non-descript load of garbage, some comment was made about the choice of opener, at which said Yorkshireman responded "If I 'ave an opening 'and I open 1 cloob. If I 'ave a strong 'and I open 2 cloobs. If I 'ave a VERY strong 'and I open 3 cloobs. Once ... just once .... I opened 4 cloobs."
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.
Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mstr-mnding) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.
"Gentlemen, when the barrage lifts." 9th battalion, King's own Yorkshire light infantry,
2000 years earlier: "morituri te salutant"
"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq
