From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

North should definitely bid 2 with 6 HCP and 5 hearts, South cues 3, North bids 4 not a great final place but reasonable.

I'm surprised everyone is bidding only 2 with the North hand. That's the only conceivable way to miss game, because any stronger action will surely yield a game bid from South. Please don't tell me North passes. I mean, I'd rather be forced to blast 4 with North's hand than to bid only 2, and passing would be hopeless. 3 probably works fine.

I mean, if some joker told me they bid 3 by North as a splinter, implying a red two-suiter, my comment would be, "Wow, that's a big bid," not "are you insane?!?!?" Of course, I have a twinge of insanity.

BTW, I know that the double can be weak, but geez!

Ok, I yield; I change my call to a confident 2

I would really count those two Ks as Aces there...ergo, 3 might not be a stretch. However, the OP hasn't specified the scoring and vulnerability and there's less incentive to bid 3 at MPs...

Edit:

I missaw the auction. A freebid of 2H is indeed enough to show this hand.

I think no one is vulnerable that is indicated in the bidding by the white bar above all seats. Vulnerable players have red bars.

Its a pity that the forum software no longer asks for the method of scoring when entering a hand. Those of us who have been here a long time often omit that information, probably out of habit.

2 for me. For me this shows around 5-8 hcp with four or five hearts. Here I am maximum for this bid. South will not pass and game will be reached in comfort.

I have an easier auction: balance 2NT, which typically is like 17-19 or so.

Then it's really a no-brainer.

Except that 2NT in the balancing position is 19+ - 21, and you don't have a stopper. Double, and when partner bids 2 like (s)he should, raise to 3. Then partner with a maximum goes to 4, and everybody's happy.

Except that 3 shows four hearts, and you only have three. Normal would be a cuebid to show a strong hand without four hearts.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

And you probably shouldn't DBL here with a dubious Q as part of your 18 HCP, but it looks like he did. I don't feel that the North hand is strong enough to bid 2, and I do expect South to support with a Max, even with only 3.

Maybe 2NT is 19-21 where you live. Here we go a bit lower, otherwise we'd never use the bid LOL.

Oh, and.. club stopper? I see you don't know me well

Why did north pass over 1C?
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I have problems to find the heart fit after 2-3 I always do, on this case north is worth a jump to 4 but if we ransfer one of his kings to south then I would have problems to find the game.

Yep. But, here on these fora they have explained to me how the bid should have the values for the level forced. Something I never knew before, and haven't adopted after.

I think that 2NT is insane, I didn't consider it at all. But we are non-vul with 5-5 shape and only 3 HCP outside of our long suits. It's gotta be right to bid 1H, no?
