Red on white, partner bids Michaels. 1-2-P-?

Your hand is Axx Kxx xxxx Axx

First, what is your plan?

Second, what is the highest level of a competitive sequence (after this start) where you will bid rather than defend? If a specific auction type is needed to get you into the stratosphere, feel free to provide that condition.

My choice is between 3! or 4!

I think 3!  and then cheapest Ctrl Cue over 3M.

I guess I'd go slow; we could belong in game or in grand.
The hand seems too square (with too few trumps) to try blasting them into a 7-level save.
If the bidding gets jacked up I'd bid up to 5M.

If pd is not interested i won't be willing to go further than 4M uncontested. Second if they compete which minor they will choose ? If they compete on my hand is better compared to them competing on suit. I would probably go upto 5 level if i have to vs pd's min hands.

KJTxx AQxxx xx x looks pretty normal to me even at these colors. Of course if pd has extras things will change. Even an extra card in one of the majors can change things with his min hands.

I would bid 4 now if availabel in our style, if not 4, to show support in both majors and a good hand. If i know we will be bidding uncontested 2 NT and then 4 would be my choice, but i doubt that will be the case. I wanna be ahead of them incase they compete.

I was curious whether I was out of my mind. I mean, I know partner was, but the last chance to escape disaster was mine when I could have doubled or paased rather than bidding. When Opener showed a minor two-suiter, and Responder elected clubs, I took the plunge to the five-level was was off 1100 against air.

Wow..What did pd have ? Regardless tho, when he bids in these colors and we have 2 BIG working cards in his suits + a side Ace, we will be in game and u are telling me we would bail -800 for just being in game ? Wow.

KJ9xx 109xxx xx x

UGH!!!

The play was rather fun.

Diamond Ace-small-highpip-small
Diamond King-small-lowpip-small
Heart Ace-followX3 (-200)
Diamond-smallruff-overruff-follow (-500)
Heart Queen-King-ruff-follow (-800)
Diamond-SpadeKing-pitch-follow

Now I get to use my noggin.

Spade Jack-small-small-10
Pull last trump, give up heart (-1100), win the rest.

I thought my smother play was kind of nice to keep away from -1400. B-)

I would bid 2NT to hear further information from partner. I cannot tell yet whether I want to play game or slam, but game+ is certainly on the cards.

At these conditions I would expect KQXXX AJXXX, or KJXXX AQXXX in the majors, not more...and certainly not what he had. So, 4M, then sell out.

My pard has never visited Portugal, so I am not worried about trying to stay out of a 4-3 fit.
