Straightforward one that came up with my p the other night. P makes the opening lead face down on the table, and then says he wants to change his mind on his lead. Is he allowed to?

Law 47E2(a): A player may retract the card he has played because of a mistaken explanation of an opponent’s call or play and before a corrected explanation without further rectification, but only if no card was subsequently played to that trick. An opening lead may not be retracted after dummy has faced any card.

The statement as to what the player wanted to do is probably a breach of L73A1 which imposes L16 constraints upon partner.

I expect I'd usually have a hard time figuring out what LAs are suggested by partner changing his mind about his opening lead. The only information conveyed is that he had a choice of leads, which is not much information. The same information is conveyed by him taking a while to make his lead.
