It appears we're likely to have 5D, 5H, A and A, and partner probably has one black K, but partner is in charge of this auction.

Isn't this the same hand you sent a PM out on? If you were going to bid grand now, you should have done it the round before. Now even if you bid and make 7, partner may believe you have trust issues. If grand fails, partner is really not going to be happy.

Partner may have been trying to decide between 7 and 7nt.

Partner is captain for sure and that suggests passing. But what can partner have to force to the 5 level opposite a 15-17 nt with 3 hearts?

I'm assuming 2 is game forcing nmf, which maybe it isn't, but surely partner can investigate slam some other way. If we assume partner doesn't have any K and only has 5 hearts then what is the hand he could have where he'd jump to 4nt?

Would something like:

Axxx
KQxxx
Axx
x

jump to 4nt? 13 opposite 15 in an 8 card fit might not be safe at the 5 level, especially if there are wasted club values.

If you J it up you get:

AJxx
KQJxx
AJx
J

And now you have 16 which would probably be willing to try 4nt and would leave you in grand which would be on a finesse or a finnese or a + squeeze (only get to choose one).

But if partner has a 6-th heart, or partner has either black K (probably spades on the auction) then we are home free. And partner doesn't know about our diamond source of tricks.

So I think I'd bid it.

Partner's jump to 4NT will surelly have more than 2 aces and KQ, at least a 6th heart.

So I bid 7, after all it is very unlikelly that an opponent will underlead K on this sequence, and partner will have at elast 2 chances to make this (diamonds running or club finese).
