some "experts" play 1 on this auction as "fourth suit forcing"

Other "experts" play 1 as natural, and a jump to 2 as "fourth suit forcing"

It is my belief that in SAYC, 1 is natural and not 4th suit forcing. A pass would be very rare over this, however. I don't believe the SAYC pamplet itself discusses this specific sequence, so I could be wrong. The best thing to do is to include this auction as one to discuss with a new partner, sayc or not.

This explanation is consistent with BBO's step-by-step SAYC convention card, except that 1 is natural AND forcing, as responder's hand is still unlimited; the 2=fsf bid denies four spades.
