Additional questions:
- After 1♠-2♣-2♦-2♠, is 3♣ a cue-bid?
- After 1♠-2♣-2♦-3♠-4♣, what would be the best continuation?

The consensus was that a sequence like 1♠-2♣;2♦-2♠;3♣ showed shape, 5143 in this case. After 2♠ I think opener should bid 2♠ and await developments. Even if I culd cue-bid the singleton club, I wouldn't want to - if I make my first cue-bid cue-bid in partner's suit, it should be an honour.
Also, opener might just bid 2♠ over 2♣. His hand looks more like "spades" than "spades and diamonds". That would simplify the auction.

5♠ 6♠
4♦ = void
5♠ = extras/good fitting hand but with no side control
Whoops I overlooked the club shortage
5♣ instead of 5♠
1♠ 4♦
5♣ 6♠
I believe that the USA currently hold only the World Championship For People Who Still Bid Like Your Auntie Gladys - dburn
dunno how to play 4 card majors - JLOGIC
True but I know Standard American and what better reason could I have for playing Precision? - Hideous Hog

too strong to splinter which would be a much less powerful playing hand.

We could also start with 4♦ which would be specifically a void, but don't tend to do so with this sort of hand with bad trumps.

I'd bid 3♠ with the North hand after 2♠, and then South would bid 4♣, North 4♠, South 6♠ (maybe 6♣) or something like that.

I still like to show 4 cards support first rather than source of tricks.
If your methods can show the ♦ Void like Cascade, then perhaps it could go like this:
1S - 4D!
5C* ( Cl Ctrl, denying Ht Ctrl, but guaranteeing at least A and K of trumps when going past 4NT [ RKC] )*
.... - 5H! ( Ht Ctrl )
6S

* Opener makes a slam try with marginal values realizing that Shortness-Opposite-Shortness ( SOS ) can produce lots of tricks with a fit.

It would never occur to me to rebid 2♦ with the North hand in a natural system.
People are apparently so obsessed with their system that they are not capable any more to evaluate a Bridge hand.
The purpose of bidding is to find the best trump suit and how high. ♦ is not a candidate.
I would bid:
1♠ 2♣
2♠ 5♦
6♣ 6♠
5♦ would be exclusion key card Blackwood.

Whether responder should bid splinter, or clubs followed by spades, is a matter for discussion and there are resources guide you, here is one, though I don't think there is any reason not to bid clubs first with this hand, but the expert discussion is interesting anyway.

After 1♠-2♣, 2♠ is forcing in SAYC, right? If it is I would reserve 3♠ for stronger hands.
