cue bidding

I am an intermediate player,maybe it is a my problem. But rarely i use cue bidding for slam. I prefer to try directly the blackwood. Because don't know if the partner give the correct meaning to my bid. Someone use only first control. I use 1st and 2nd control. Others give particular meanings to nt. What i think will be useful, it is a common method to use in bbo.
What do you think ?
