What's your plan?


If you pass, partner will double. If you bid something, partner will probably bid NT.

Edit: Over 3♥ partner will be 3N, your call now?
If you bid 4♥ partner will pass I guess

I would pass and pass the double. I don't see what we're supposed to make. I guess I would probably lead a diamond.

I'm not keen on defending 2♠x, which seems to be an 8- or 9-card fit.

Hearts might play OK - I can use partner's minor-suit entries to take spade ruffs, then exit and wait for a few more trump tricks. A likely problem is that RHO is 4-6 in the majors and can ruff one of partner's minor-suit winners. Hence I'll just bid 3♥. Afterwards I'll explain to partner why it's non-forcing.

I detest defending 2♠ x'd. I want to play 3♥, and I think a direct 3♥ is too encouraging. Partner sounds like a 40(54) or something close with the pass of the xx.

We should always assume 2/1 unless otherwise stated, because:

- If the original poster didn't bother to state his system, that means that he thinks it's obvious what he's playing. The only people who think this are 2/1 players.

Unless it makes 10 tricks. Then we explain to partner why he should have raised. :P

You won't believe what just happened to me. My opponent sat for 2S doubled holding an amazing 7 card suit and a spade void and zero defense in a situation where his partner would double 2S with a wide variety of hands, most of which are not even close to beating 2S in his own hand.

No way I'm putting partner through the misery of collecting 6 tricks on defense, when opps have a probably 9-card fit, when I have nothing to help him out with, that's for sure.

I'm tempted by pass and 2NT, try to play a 5-3 minor fit. Might play quite well. Obviously pass and rip to 3♥ is also an option.

While I admit that I've reconsidered my original pass, I still strongly disagree with this statement. We're the ones who should be doubling 2s with a wide variety of hands on this auction, since our hand is more unknown than partner's. To me passing 2s really screams that I have hearts and nothing else, though of course it need not be quite this pure. So I think after our pass partner should only double with very good spades, though perhaps this hand is still too extreme to sit.

so, I was Adam's partner and I had:

KTxxx

AKxx
AT8x

I doubled 2♠, over his pull to 3♥ I bid 3NT, and Adam went to 4♥ which I passed.
10 tricks were there for the taking despite ♥ being 7-6-0-0 around the table.
