Hello,

I'm a computer technician who is supporting an older gentleman who enjoys playing Bridge withthe BBO community. He's not comfortable with the Internet-based software client and prefers the standalone client, and so I'm making a request on his behalf.

His computer was recently replaced with a new system which includes a widescreen format monitor. It's a little smaller vertically and so part of the client is overtaken by the task bar. I can hide the taskbar behind the client but he's not comfortable with this.

The Window on the client itself is locked in size using standard definition screen ratio (4:3). It cannot be maximized and so it will not fill the boundaries of the wide screen format.

Based on what I've read about the software, I understand that users are encouraged to move to the web-based client. However if there are intentions to upgrade the old client, I'd like to suggest for the new crew who plan to participate in the game that BBO support wide screen format display, or to have the window resizable. There could be minimum window boundary where the window could not be made smaller than a defined size, and the card positions could be made proportional based on the vertical or horizontal size of the window.

The alternative would be to suggest that he learn about how to use the web client, or to live with the limits of the stand-alone client. This isn't impossible, but I'd like to help in any way I can to reduce the learning curve.

In Summary:
If there are to be future releases to the stand-along BBO client, could it be setup with support for resizable windows and the widescreen window format?

Thanks for your consideration.

Hi. I don't know whether BBO has changed its mind about updating the standalone client, but my impression is that, barring major bugs, they will not.

A few things to try to see if they improve the experience:

Try hitting CTRL-W a few times and see if any of the window layouts are acceptable, perhaps in combination with CTRL-F which toggles the font size.

See if moving the taskbar to the left or right edge of the screen, instead of the bottom, would be acceptable?

Thanks Matmat.

I'd test it myself but apparently I was banned as my account was being created and I'm waiting on assistance to test this out.

I'll reply with results as soon as they become available.
