You are playing vs a couple who appear to have no idea about bridge. They have their "system notes" (smaller than a B5 paper with normal fonts) in front of them and are often asking each other questions about what each bids means (the answer is usually 'sorry I don't know either')

1-2
2-3
pass

Your lead?

x
AKTx
Qxx
AQxxx

(you passed over 1 unfavourable MP with this hand)
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

The Ace of hearts (or the king - whatever your agreement)

# I dont lead the single trump
# I dont underlead Qxx in a suit they have bid

That leaves hearts and clubs, and heart is a safer variant.

I guess we are playing MP?

Haha... I once played against a pair who bid like this (with no comments) at a club tournament. After the pass, I asked what system they were playing. The answer was "Forum D" (German standard system). They didn't quite want to believe me that this bidding sequence does not exist in that system (admittedly, I don't know it very well).

Agreement on the 3rd suit typically calls for the trump lead. Add to that our sitting over opener's heart suit and I think it's even clearer.

When the opps don't know their own system, trying to figure out their hands is never going to be easy. However, unless they are completely off the rails, they appear to have a 4-4 trump fit and opener will be 4=5+ in the majors. We have the hearts wrapped up, and we would prefer to take out 2 of their trumps for every one of our partner's...letting our partner overruff dummy in hearts (even if possible) simply promotes declarer's trump length.

The main dangers of a trump lead are that it costs partner a trick in the suit or that it loses a tempo. I won't worry about the first one...any trick we lose is likely to come back later. We may regret not leading a club if declarer can take some pitches in diamonds. But as against that, if anyone rates to hold the club K it will be declarer.

So this is one of those very rare hands on which it seems right to lead a stiff trump.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

I think trump gives you 140 and a good score, others 170 and a bad score. Not sure. I sort of forgot the whole deal. I lead a trump and got a good score.

Always lead a trump against strange auctions.

Just kidding, but it sounds like a legitimate rule doesn't it? :P

It does, and you'll have more trumps than them at least half the time anyway.

Agree, however I would definitely have bid over the opening.
