Teams (Imps scoring):
Agree 1D?

What's your bidding plan/what do you bid on 2?

3 seems to be some sort of a heart raise. Bidding 3N now is out of the question... If this was the plan, we could have bid 3N before. I agree with 1, and will now double.

double strikes me as utterly bizarre. yes, I know that no-body ever doubles anyone for penalty anymore, but to use double here as 'do something intelligent' is not exactly intelligent. Didn't anyone notice that we hold AKQxxxxx in diamonds?

Do we expect partner to take us back to our 9 card fit? Or to conclude that his short diamonds means he has no defensive potential?

I would bid 3 now... surely this gets us to 3N much of the time when that is a playable spot (tho he won't bid it with Jxx...but we were never getting to 3N anyway after our start)...and goes some modest way to telling partner what our hand looks like....he'll maybe think we have only 7 good diamonds, but he'll know we have some side stuff.

I think double then diamonds shows a less one-dimensional hand (assuming that it doesn't suggest defending 2)

3 was my first reaction too but now people will think I'm just copying mikeh. :(

I also though 3 was a very good option, but I think he hand deserves a little more.

At the table, I also thought the hand was too good to bid 3, so the choice was between 3, showing some fit/tolerance, and dbl.

I think dbl is better, leaving the bidding lower and so, allowing more space to detect the best contract : 3NT with half a stopper in p's hand (giving 3NT a chance by bidding 3 on his dbl response followed by 3NT) or some number of .

But unless partner can expect a dbl with an 8 bagger, I wldn't advice it.

3 was my choice on which p bid 4, corrected by me to 5 making with an overtrick.

p's hand :

AQx A10xxx 10x xxx

In the other room, the bidding went 1 3NT end. The 3NT bidder told afterwards he had put a in his

My teammate had to lead holding J10xxx xxx Jx J10x.

A "6 tricks difference" lead. 3NT made +3 after a rather normal lead.

I think double is bizarre. I would have tried 3C the first time around. Now I simply bid 3D.

With a passed hand opposite, I don't agree with 1. I prefer either 3NT or some large number of diamonds, depending on vulnerability (which was not given).

The hand diagram show non-vulernable seats white and vulnerable in red, so no one is vulnerable on this hand.
