4-4-4-1

I just never know what to do with these big 4-4-4-1's. You open 2♣, P responds 2♦, which is GF but denies a 5 card suit headed by 2 of top 3 honors. Now what?

I'm inclined to think that if the stiff in any suit is A or K, that argues for a 2nt rebid, which is what I did. It worked out, but any advice or comments? thx, :rolleyes:

How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

2NT (Bal 22-24) seems to be the least lie and may be the easiest rebid for responder to field. Stiff K is certainly better than a small stiff club. Try to make partner-friendly bids and rebids when possible.
ps: There is no right answer to this one unless playing the old version of Roman 2D or some other method geared for strong 4441's. Be thankful that your distro wasn't 4450!

try rebidding 2NT

Either treat it as balanced or just open 1♦. I would never open 2♣ with a 4441 and treat it as unbalanced. With a singleton king, 2♣ then 2NT is fine. With a small singleton I'd open one of a suit even with as much as 23 or 24 HCP.

yes, what you did is best with K or Ace, even with the queen it often works best.

3 suiters are hard to bid on many systems, if you start with 2♣ you better bid the hand as balanced and pray. Otherwise all will get messy

you can also start with 1♦ if you wanna bid the 3 suits
