Scoring: IMP

P - P - 1[CL} - P
??

What is your preferred response and why?

Assuming response was 1 or 1 or even 1NT
what do you do when pard bids 3?

1/1 I don't care.

Next I rebid 1NT.

1. You should bid 1 because if LHO bids at the 2 level, the spade suit might be hard to dig out.

2. After

1 1
3 3

plan is if opener bids

3: this probably shows uncertainty on the heart stopper, so 4 now.
3: now 3NT. If I don't have 5 spades and didn't bid 3NT before, it's because I lack a heart stop.
3NT: fine, pass.
4: hearts open, pass.
4: well, pard should have some 64, so now 5.

Not sure I like all of the other options but with this one I wonder why partner didn't bid 2 showing roughly the same values and more distribution (nine cards in two suits rather than six cards in one suit) and its more economical.

how about him having

x
xx
Kxxx
AKQJxx

If you think that's low for a 3 bid, just give it an extra K.

I guess its a matter of style. I prefer the reverse - in the hand with the extra king.

A rather than the king and we have the minimum values for 3 for me. I might still reverse.

Yeah, I would also reverse. I put it up because sometimes people bid stuff in other ways, like 3 :)

1- P - 3 - P
3 - P - 3 - P

What now?

The hands:-

1 then 3NT. I dislike the 3 call. I have such weak spades that I don't care for playing 4-3 fit. I will regret it if partner has a small stiff heart. But otherwise 3NT rates to be a reasonable contract even if we lack heart stopper.
