Scoring: IMP

Playing with a pick-up, we had a fortunate result, on the auction:

1C 1D
1H 2S
2NT 4NT
5D 6D

However, since it would appear partner misunderstood my quantitative 4NT bid, I can't really take all the credit.

6D is very good, 6H is fair, 6S has chances, 6NT is off on a club lead.

How would you bid it?

To game in my case:

1N-2-2-2-3-3-3-3N or 4

Partner opens a weak no trump and shows a 3424 hand with no more than 14 so I'm not bidding a slam with the S hand.

I think we would bid:

1C - 1H (4+ spades)
1S (3 spades) - 2C (relay)
2D (12-14 balanced) - 3D
3NT - Pass.

If opener bids 3H instead then we might have a chance of reaching 6D.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

1-1 (3+ ; nat walsh)
1NT-2 (playing walsh ; GF 5+4)
2NT-3 (nothing special ; 3)
3NT?-pass (no fit no extra's ; trust partner's stopper I guess)

I don't like 3NT on that auction Free.

Me too (hence the "?"), but what would you do? Lots of alternatives, but which one to chose?

I think 4 since you can play on whatever strain partner wants to pick. 3 also fine. All your cards are working you've got to make an encouraging move.

1NT (12-14) - 2
2 - 3
3NT - pass.

Too bad that opener has a perfecto.

1NT (12-14) 2NT (transfer to diamonds)
3C (I have less than Hxx in diamonds) 3S
3NT

I don't see a clear way to slam.

Probably something like in C-cubed:

1 (4 card majors) - 2* (art GF)
2* (balanced, or single suited, or 4441) - 2* (ask)
2* (balanced) - 2NT* (Baron style, seeking minor fit; pard is not on 5 carder for major)
3* (four clubs) - 3NT (pard didn't open 14-16 NT, has no canape, lacks four diamonds, and can't have what I need)

Chalk it to the magic hand.

Playing with a pick-up, we had a fortunate result, on the auction:

1C 1D
1H 2S
2NT 4NT
5D 6D

Side issue:
What was 2S-jump ?
If that was 4th SGF, it denies 4 cards Sp ( standard ).

The correct bid is 1S.. forcing to at least 1NT.

99% of the time 1S means 4 cards Sp.
"The only time one uses 1S as artificial is if he wants to jump to 3C or to 3H and have that bid ( 3C or 3H ) be forcing. "
" After bidding the 4th suit at the 1 level ( 1S ), a jump (next) in partner's suit is game forcing. 1C - 1D - 1H - 3H invites. 1C - 1D - 1H - 4H shows an opener. And 1C - 1D - 1H - 1S - 1NT - 3H is ( now ) forcing and shows slam interest. "

1C - 1D
1H - 1S
1NT( 12-14) - ?? You don't have a 3C-jump or a 3H-jump and my notes don't show it, but I would think
a 3D-jump is also GF, slammish since 1C - 1D - 1H - 3D would be an invite....
although I would rather have 6+ cards for a 3D-jump. It only works here w/ 5 cards because Opener has at least J-x in . Percentagewise, though, it is not a good slam.

1C - 1D
1H - 1S
1NT - 3Djump
4D - ( RKC )
( 1 key ) - 6D
